5 Days in Yellowstone - Day 5

Our last day - where did the time go??  We set the alarm for 5 am and took our time getting things back in the truck and went down for the free breakfast before we left for our final day in the Park.

So far the only things we hadn't seen were a Badger and Pika - but there's still time!!

The Black Bear and her 2 yearling cubs were near Tower again but photos weren't great and they were sleeping so we moved on.  We're seeing lots of Big Horn Sheep near the Yellowstone Picnic Area - but we know there aren't any of the Big Boys - you can see them above the Wolf den at Slough Creek.  Once again nothing going on at our usual places we check so we went on down to the Slough Den.

Nothing at the den - but we didn't know that they had moved that morning.

We went back to Tower and found some photographers getting shots of a very nice posing Marmot.

I got some shots of the Great Horned Owl nest near Tower.

We missed a Black Bear - he'd gone over the hill.

We headed towards Lamar Valley to make our last trip thru.  Just before the Lamar River Bridge - - - What do I spy running across the side of a hill??

My Badger!!!

I think the door was open before Don got stopped and I was walking out to see how close we could get - he was a little ways out there!  They aren't an animal that stands still very long and this one kept moving - stopping to check holes and he was on his way again.  He got to a small stream but that didn't stop him either.

I couldn't see him cross but up the hill on the other side he went.

He stopped and dug into the side of the hill before he went on top where it was harder to see him.

We turned around at Slough Creek and paused for this Pronghorn.

We checked down the Tower road and "almost" got another Black Bear but he must've gotten a bit too close for the Bison as he tossed his head at him and away went the bear.

At the end of the Phantom Lake drainage there was a distant Cinnamon bear but we didn't stop for it.

The Grizzly and cub we saw the first day had been hazed away from the road after a bit of trouble so we didn't have much to see but we did stop at our usual spot for a Pika Hunt.

The only thing at the first stop was a Golden Mantled Ground Squirrel

So we went on down to the other spot we know and we no more got up to the rocks and we heard one calling and spotted him way up high.  We stayed and looked for a bit and finally we spied another one and were able to get some shots of him.

Getting to photograph the Badger and the Pika on our last day was the perfect way to end the 5 Days.

Don is already checking motel room availability for next year!!

Hope you enjoyed all the photos and Thanks for Looking!!
