5 Days in Yellowstone - Day 3

Day 3 starts like all the others will - the alarm goes off at 4:30 and we're back in the Park at 6 am.

We find a Black Bear near the road at Tower by 7 am.

Just down the road - 20 minutes later - we find the Black Bear with the 3 cubs-of-year.  They're running thru the grass and climbing trees.

This little one was so much fun to watch as he climbed up and down the tree.

Mom finally came to the road and crossed.

And then the babies!

When they got to the other side - up a tree they went.

You lose track of time watching all of their antics!!

We're pretty sure the first bear we saw is this same bear - he'd gone behind a hill and now he's finally come out again.  Took forever to get a shot of him - he was intent on eating and kept his head down behind the sagebrush.

Down the road by Calcite Overlook is a Black Bear - they finally called a Ranger in who had to haze him away from the road.  Hope he doesn't become a problem and get himself in trouble.  The guy in the orange vest isn't the Ranger - he does crowd control at the Bear Jams but doesn't have the authority to do any hazing.

It seems like everyday you drive thru Lamar Valley there are more and more baby Bison.  But that's Ok with me - I Love watching these little guys!!

We take off to check other parts of the Park and end up having lunch at Soda Butte Picnic Area again.  It starts to rain at 1:00 so we just do some driving.  Checked the Wolves at Slough Creek and since they opened Dunraven a week early we drive up there for a ways - Lots of snow up there!! - and then turn around and head back to Tower.

We're in the right place to catch the Fox at Tower again.  He's caught some lunch and is headed somewhere with it.

We find a Moose at Petrified Tree.

Heading back to Mammoth there's a Cinnamon Black Bear near Blacktail Plateau Drive - to the right of him is a carcass.

And back at Gardiner is a newborn baby Elk!!

It's a Great way to end the day!!
Thanks for looking!
Cindy

Here are a few more photos from the day.
